My dearest…

I don’t like pushing information on anyone that isn’t open to listening, but I sincerely urge you to watch this TED talk. Albeit American based, the premise is relevant to Canadians. If you care about your body, your parents, girlfriend, boyfriend, wife, husband, child, friend… watch this, please!

GMOs introduction of foreign/synthetic proteins in our foods is wreaking unprecedented havoc on our health - especially in children. The top allergens of today are the foods which have undergone the most in genetic modifications - soy, milk, peanuts, wheat … I don’t feel the public is properly informed of the dangers and the importance of this issue. This video is the best articulation of this massive issue I’ve ever heard or read.

The proliferation of serious food allergies and certain diseases in the past 20 years is not coincidental. This is a direct product of the food industry’s insatiable profit motives that outweigh any motivation to due diligently verify a product completely safe before distribution. The meaning of ‘safe’ is too often equated with ‘not been proven dangerous’! In most cases, human trials are never conducted.

The traditional business model is flawed on its face. Maximizing profits is the fiduciary duty of any corporate shareholder. GMO crops are patentable. Conventional agriculture receives the most in government subsidies. Organic farmers are charged fees to prove their product is authentic and GMO free, more fees to label their product and offered less crop insurance and marketing assistance than that of their conventional counterparts.

Your health should be a priority. Inform yourself.

The premise is, the human mind cannot process anymore than 150 relationships at a time. 150 people/friends/family/acquaintances/lovers/dogs/turtles… try to have anymore than this and you’re eluding yourself.

I get it and I agree with it.

Since getting my first facebook account, I have travelled the world, earned two degrees, lived in England, Austria and briefly Germany and Spain. I’ve collected friends like limited edition Canadian quarters, albiet with the best intentions that I’ll keep them shiny and new. Reality is, I haven’t talked to many people since the week before we solidified facebook friendships (likely the first and only encounter I ever had with these people). Most of my interactions occur between 30-40 people on my list, giving my old facebook account maybe a 5% utility rate.

I put my old facebook to sleep last night and started a new account. I befriended my old self, plucked the best from my old friend list and now 500 friends lighter, I feel happier, lighter, more relieved and freer. My news feed updates me on people I give a shit about. I’m not fussing with privacy settings because I don’t want my ex-ex boyfriend to see my pictures of my ex-ex-ex boyfriend. I’m not hiding posts about my failed bar exam from the people that will judge me for it. I don’t worry about the 6 years of facebook material that reflects a me I don’t feel I am today. And on and on it goes…

I’m human, flawed to no end and I want relations with people that will accept this perforated package with whatever’s inside. I done ‘limiting audiences’ when it comes to my life.

I just wish facebook would quit ‘suggesting friendships’ to me when 100 is enough.

OMG. Not only is this little video adorable, but it has some serious irony for me. Like creepy irony.

I was just searching tags of ‘the wanted’, not because I think 16 year old male abs are sexy, but because my boyfriend told me he made some side dollars modelling as the token black guy avec giant afro in the ‘Glad you Came’ video. The cuts are real fast, but if you’re interested, he’s the black guy sandwiched between / grinding against stick thin white 18 year old girls and I think at one point he jumps off a cliff. Do you blame him?

The second irony is, my boyfriend pretty much caught my eye with his superior dancing skills. He’s one heck of a moonwalker, to be frank. THIRDLY, this little asian girl is damn well my 5 year old doppleganger! I even wore the same pink shirt and blue pants and sported the same medium length bob with bangs, as do all little asian girls. And, by golly, look at her little beautiful face - she is enamoured, yet slightly scared by this hyperactive dance machine. It all takes me right back.
